Team Lotus technical officer Mike Gascoyne expecting more progress from the team – Formula 1 news
The chief technical officer of Team Lotus Mike Gascoyne has recently stated that he is expecting more progress from his team at the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.
He said he was hopeful of an improved performance since the team closed the gap with the mid-running teams of the sport noticeably at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The team qualified for the Q2 session of the qualifying round of the Spanish Grand Prix and it is believed that it is mainly because of the successful upgrades the team applied to its car that weekend.
“Different tracks may reduce or increase the gap to the cars ahead, but the facts are clear - we have been into Q2, we can race cars ahead on pace and we are now lapping the teams we were racing last year,” said Gascoyne.
The Monaco Grand Prix on the other hand was a bit difficult for the team as they were slightly off the pace of Toro Rosso, Williams and Force India this past weekend. However, Gascoyne believes that it is nothing to worry about as the gap would fluctuate
race by race but revealed that an upgrade is due for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix as well.
“Canada gives us another chance to keep moving forward and we have a new low downforce package for Montreal that we have seen some good numbers on in the wind tunnel, so I think the progress should continue,” added the team’s technical chief.
Heikki Kovalainen on the other hand stated that the upgrade which was introduced at the Spanish Grand Prix required some time to master. Monaco was a completely different story for the team though as it got the best of both of the team’s drivers and the
tyres. However, the Canadian Grand Prix is going to be quite beneficial for the team as they would be able to put up a better show there.
Nevertheless, he added that he is looking forward to the upcoming race which is going to bring some useful performance upgrades and is hoping for a repeat of the team’s Spanish Grand Prix performance at the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.
