Team MLB arrives in Taiwan for All – Star Series
Players walked off their jet to greet the fans and the press at Taoyuan International Airport on Sunday, October 30. The Major League All Star team arrived in Taiwan to play the Taiwan All – Star Series and the squad members looked crisp in their response
to the welcome as they met with the supporters and expressed their pleasure in taking part in the competition. As Bruce Bochy manages the MLB team, he brought a good set of players with him.
The New York Yankees’ Robinson Cano is one of the stars in the midst and his appearance on the team comes as no surprise. He had never been to Taiwan but his father, Jose Cano, played for the Wei Chuan Dragons between 1998 and 1999 in the country.
"It's an honor to be here," Robinson Cano said. "I'm looking forward to playing against the best players in Taiwan. Also it's a dream come true. My dad played here for 11 months. Too bad I didn't make it here when I was young, but I'm happy now to be here
and looking forward to the series."
Another player from the Yankees’ squad happens to be Curtis Granderson. The player has been tied alongside Taiwanese pitcher Fu – Te Ni, when he played for the Detroit Tigers, and he still keeps a glove that has his name in Mandarin scribbled on it. The
item was a gift from the Taiwanese pitcher. Granderson was proud to be part of the MLB squad.
"We're looking forward to experiencing everything that Taiwan has to offer - from the food to the culture to the great baseball," Granderson said.
With the game scheduled to be played in three different cities, the MLB team’s manager Bochy has little data to work with.
"In our game, we have so much video available and scouts, but we don't have very much info right now," Bochy said. "We'll work out tomorrow."
This will be a real test of nerves for the players as they move to make the most of their time in Taiwan. International experience counts and that could be the ideal reason for many players to take part in the competition.
