Team McLaren pumped up after the Friday practice sessions at the Korean International Circuit
The 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton said that he felt that his McLaren was working very well around the new Yeongam circuit after he finished as the third fastest driver in Friday’s final free practice session for the Korean Grand Prix.
Hamilton was the fastest driver after the first practice session and said that once the conditions got stable, he found his McLaren to be quick in most areas of the track particularly the long straight including sectors two and three.
“This morning, the track was extremely dusty, so all the drivers were sliding around quite a lot. But the track evolution throughout the day has been quite dramatic, so the track is looking quite good now, even if there's still plenty of dust off-line,”
said Hamilton.
Lewis Hamilton is all pumped up since the past couple of races. He retired in 3 out of the past 5 races but is still optimistic about his title run.
“We look to be quick along the straights, and we seem to be competitive in the second and third sectors too, which is encouraging. The track is very fast - and you need a good car around here, which I feel we've got,” he added.
Despite losing some vital track time in the afternoon, Jenson Button agreed with his teammate’s thoughts that McLaren was handling the track quite comfortably.
“Our car has been performing pretty well here and I've been enjoying the circuit - it's fun and flowing. While the track was pretty tricky initially because it was quite slippery, I felt like we got to grips with it quite quickly. There's just a lot of dust,
that's the only problem,” said Button.
He believes that the car was very strong in the first sector but they are also pretty strong in the other sectors as compared to their rivals. It was expected that McLaren will be fast in the first sector and that is encouraging for them. Jenson was excited
and said that he is looking forward to the rest of the weekend.
Even though the McLarens were not the fastest cars in the 2nd practice session, the drivers looked quite comfortable and as always, the Friday practice sessions are just a test run for the drivers and does not matter in terms of statistics most
of the time.
