Team Mercedes aiming for top spot in the 2011 Formula 1 season
Team Mercedes recently revealed its new car for the 2011 Formula 1 season before the first pre-season test session in Valencia. Their new car looks pretty good and the team is very confident about the upcoming season.
They believe that they have a car which has the potential to win races and since the team has drivers like the 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg, they are hoping for the best possible results.
The team had a disastrous 2010 season as they were unable to compete against the top running teams at all. Michael Schumacher claims that they did not have a very strong car and that the tyre compounds by Bridgestone did not suite their car at all because
of which the team was unable to give a promising performance.
“I very much look forward to the new season. We have said it several times already but again, we are really to building up something big together. I am very confident that this season we will be standing on the podium much more regularly; ideally in the
middle,” said Schumacher.
Nico Rosberg on the other hand was able to score more points than the legendary Michael Schumacher in 2010 and the critics appreciated his 2010 run very much since Nico managed to score decent points consistently, keeping in mind his car was not very good
as compared to the top running teams.
However, Rosberg is also confident about the 2011 Formula 1 season after finishing in 7th place in the drivers’ standings in 2010.
“We want to be competing at the front and challenging for race wins. Everyone at our factories in Brackley and Brixworth has worked extremely hard on the new Silver Arrow and we are all looking forward to seeing how it performs,” he said.
Team boss Ross Brawn echoed his drivers comments as he hopes that the team will make a possible “come back” in 2011 and prove that they are in Formula 1 to win. He is expecting a good start from his team so that they can gain an advantage over their rivals
and hopefully, build a very good momentum in order to secure even more points later on.
Other than that, they believe that their new car has a good technical structure and a strong race engineering organization, both at the track and at their factory.
It is going to be interesting to see how their drivers perform at the test session in Valencia against their rivals Ferrari and Red Bull Racing team, who are also using their new cars for the session.
