Team Mercedes now in full control of their car makers
It was recently revealed that Team Mercedes is now in full control of their car makers, Mercedes, as they have bought all the shares from Mercedes team Principal Ross Brawn and four other partners.
According to a report, the car makers are taking over the 24.9 percent that was kept by Brawn and his partners when they decided to sell BrawnGP to Mercedes after a Championship winning performance in 2009.
However, it was mentioned in the report that the deal will be finalized before the opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season, which is expected to take place in Bahrain on the 13th of March, 2011.
The team recently revealed its new car and it seems that they are quite confident about the upcoming season. The team believes that their car is going to be as good as the top running cars, and they will find themselves in a better position this season to
compete for the titles.
Mercedes currently have the 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg as their two full season drivers for the 2011 Formula 1 season and both of them are the sort of drivers who, when given a competitive car, can give the top teams a run
for their money.
Michael returned to the sport after retiring in 2006 from Ferrari. However, he failed to perform up to his fans’ expectations since he was unable to score a single podium position and on top of that, he finished in 9th place in the drivers’ standings,
with more than 70 points less than his team-mate Nico Rosberg who finished in 7th place.
“We are within my three-year time-table. We can drive for the world title, but I still have some doubts whether we can achieve it this year,” said Michael.
Nevertheless, Michael is quite confident about the 2011 Formula 1 season and he claims that he is not aiming for anything less than a win now.
“Of course you prefer to make the podium than racing for fourth to 10th place. But I did not return to get yet another podium finish. I have different goals," said Schumacher.
It is believed that Michael will be one of the top running drivers in 2011, but one can never be sure what Formula 1 has in store for its fans. An example of that is the 2009 season when BrawnGP won the championship in its debut season or even the 2007 season
when Lewis Hamilton scored 9 podium positions in the first 9 races of his career.
