Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step drops Matt Brammeier from 2013 roster
Matt Brammeier was shocked after reading the news of his exclusion from Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step while scanning through the morning news papers.
“Yeah, I actually found out by reading it in the newspaper,” Brammeier told Cyclingnews“.
“Nobody contacted me directly so that was a bit of a disappointment. I just read a piece saying that they probably wouldn’t be re-signing me next year”.
He started his professional career with Team DFL-Cyclingnews-Litespeed in 2006 and stayed with the side for a period of one year before joining Profel Ziegler Continental team through 2007-08.
Matt signed a two-year deal with Team An Post-Sean Kelly before joining the American squad, Team HTC-Highroad in 2011.
He had no other option but to find a new side to continue hi professional pursuit for the 2012 season after Team HTC-Highroad announced its departure from professional cycling following the lack of funds.
Brammeier was given a one-year contract by Patrick Lefevere’s side, Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step and the cyclist could not really help the team in the current season.
His only commendable performance in the current season includes a first place finish at the Irish National Elite Road Race Championships 2012.
“I didn’t have a super year there really. I didn’t really feel at home. It just didn’t seem like a team to me,” said Brammeier.
“I wanted to stick with the guys from HTC because it was a little bit more familiar than going into a totally different team and starting again. I was pretty happy to be around Brian Holm and people like that”.
The 27-year-old noted that his role in the Belgian team was mainly to support the team leader which gave him very less opportunities to ride for himself.
The cyclist clearly regretted the decision of joining the team back in 2012 and noted that he must have gone for some other team in 2012 as he had a few really good offers.
Brammeier is not certain of his future but believes that he still has a pretty good chance of securing a World Tour spot.
He has already begun training for the season ahead and is keen to resume his professional hunt with a World Tour side in the coming season.
