Team Omega-Pharma Quick Step positive for the Tour of Flanders 2012
Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step is amongst the top sides for the 2012 season. It has already claimed as many as 23 victories in the young season and is now settings its eyes at the Tour of Flanders.
Not only that the team has secured the maximum number of victories, 5 out of the 23 wins it has secured came in the last ten days.
Niki Terpstra won the Dwars Door Vlaanderen and was followed by Tom Boonen.
The Belgian helped the side with two fantastic wins at the E3 Prijs Vlaanderen-Harelbeke and Gent-Wevelgem.
Sylvain Chavanel won the time trial and the overall classifications at the Three Days of De Panne-Koksijde 2012.
The side will ride under the reliable leadership of Tom Boonen, who is a definite favourite for the event, especially after his recent two wins.
He opened the 2012 winning account with the first stage victory at the Tour of Qatar and also grabbed the fourth stage of the race later on.
The cyclist continued his tremendous run of form and grabbed the overall classifications at the Tour of Qatar, along with the point’s classifications victory
Boonen also won a stage each at the Tour de San Luis and the Paris-Nice in his bag along with a second place finish at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad.
Wilfried Peeters of Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step is determined that the side will continue its winning ways at the Belgian race.
“There are 110 scenarios for Sunday. I have something in mind and Saturday night we will sit around the table,” he briefed.
"We obviously want as many riders in the finals as possible and want to make no mistakes. The course is also a factor. This is new for everyone, for now it is conjecture what the course will be like".
"Before, you knew: we take 50 (riders) to the Muur (van Geraardsbergen) and break it open. Now that can happen anywhere," Peeters concluded.
Tom Boonen is definitely a strong contender for the 2012 version of the Belgian race.
The cyclist succeeded during the 2005 and the 2006 editions of the event and is keen to add yet another win under his resume during the 96th version of the Tour of Flanders.
