Team Omega Pharma–QuickStep holding a three-day training camp
Following the success of its ‘Talent Training Camp’ in the past season, Team Omega Pharma-QuickStep has set up a three-day camp specially focussing the under 23 and junior cyclists.
A total number of sixteen athletes have been invited from different parts of the world including Norway, Denmark, Italy, Algeria, Australia, Belgium and The Netherlands.
Team Sports Director Tom Steels has noted that the camp will help both the athletes and the team in developing the future strategies.
The side had a successful session in the past season which is the main reason why the management has shown interest towards organising it for the second consecutive season.
Steels briefed that the main idea behind the camp is to give the young talent an insight of the team’s culture which provide them with an understanding of how a professional side operates.
He cited, “These types of activities are important for the athletes, to gain understanding as to how a professional team is managed”.
“but they are even more important to our staff. In fact, we can learn a lot from the younger generations, especially when it comes to managing an individual versus the group”.
“These guys are part of a new generation of athletes who in just a few years will be taking the torch from today's generation”.
“It is essential to understand their needs and requirements and perhaps to get some feedback from them to develop our own approach to the youth group," he concluded.
Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step was founded back in 2003 with its head office in Belgium. Patrick Lefevere is the main man behind its operations since the beginning.
It has operated under different names Team Quick Step-Davitamon (2003-04), Team Quick Step-Innergetic (2005-07), Team Quick Step (2008-11) and currently goes by the name, Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step.
The team is having a terrific season and currently holds the fourth overall position after 2012 UCI World Tour team’s ranking with a total number of 574 points to its credit.
Team Katusha is leading the category with 708 UCI points while Team Liquigas-Cannondale and Team Sky hold the second and the third positions in the respective order.
