Team Orica-GreenEdge eyeing the Tour of Beijing to end the 2012 season on a high-note
Team Orica-GreenEdge marked its World Tour debut in the 2012 season and claimed the first World Tour race of the season after Simon Gerrans shined at the Santos Tour Down Under 2012.
The Australian side has now diverted its attention towards the final World Tour race of year, the Tour of Beijing scheduled later this month.
With over 90 % of Australian cyclists on its squad, the team has done well in its first year at the top level of the sport considering its several performances throughout the season.
It currently holds the sixth overall position after the UCI World Tour team’s rankings with a total number of 920 UCI points in its bag.
Simon Gerrans (390 points), Michael Albasini (183 points), Matthew Harley Goss (114), Luke Durbridge (56 points) and Svein Tuft (37 points) are the team’s top performers in its debut season.
Team Sky is leading the category with 1691 points with Team Katusha (1273 points), Team Liquigas-Cannondale (1178 points), Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step (1066 points) and Team Movistar (941 points) holding the next four positions respectively.
While commenting at the Chinese race, the team’s Sports Director Lorenzo Lapage briefed, "We're going to China to chase a good result for the team".
"We have had an amazing debut on the WorldTour and to finish it off on a high note is a big priority for us. We're going with a top motivated group of riders for this".
"Simon is obviously in great form and he is one of several cards we can play at the Tour of Beijing," explained Lapage.
"He came out strong from the Vuelta and showed at the World's and the Tour of Lombardy that he's still really motivated to race hard".
Simon Gerrans helped the team with UCI Inaugural race, Santos Tour Down Under followed by the Milan-San Remo while Michael Albasini claimed the General Classifications victory at the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya in the first two quarter of the 2012 season.
The final squad to assist the Australian team at the Chinese race include, Simon Clarke, Allan Davis, Mitch Docker, Leigh Howard, Aidis Kruopis, Sebastian Langeveld, Christian Meier and Wes Sulzberger.
