Team Orica-GreenEdge to announce its final squad for the Tour de France 2012
Team Orica-GreenEdge is marking its World Tour debut in the current season and the team has been impressive throughout the first half of the year.
The team is now warming up for the most prestigious cycling event of the year, the Tour de France 2012.
The Australian side is looking ahead at the Tour de France as the next big goal of its 2012 season.
Team Sports Director Matt White told Cyclingnews that, he has still not finalised the final squad for the coming race.
Team Orica-GreenEdge currently holds the seventh overall spot at the UCI World Tour team’s ranking with a total number of 457 UCI points to its credit.
Simon Gerrans (210), Michele Albasini (172), Matthew Goss (32), Allan Davis (8) and Cameron Meyer (6) helped the team with their healthy contributions during the first half of the season.
Gerrans is the team’s best player and currently occupies the seventh overall position after UCI World Tour Elite Men ranking.
Simon became part of history by winning the UCI Inaugural event, the Santos Tour Down Under and also finished first at the Milan-San Remo 2012.
Matt Goss, Simon Gerrans, Stuart O'Grady, Pieter Weening, Sebastian Langeveld and Daryl Impey are believed to represent the team at the French Grand Tour.
White cited, "The rest of the guys they know that they're not doing the Tour de France but it will play a very important role in their development this year and a big chunk of that group will be heading off to the Vuelta later in the season”.
"It's a good test for them. It's a very, very difficult race the Dauphiné but also it's a race where those guys can take opportunities when they arise for stage wins for themselves".
The side is now lining up for the Criterium du Dauphine starting on Sunday June 3, 2012 and Matt briefed that the event will definitely help him in finalising the Tour squad.
The 2012 edition of the Tour de France is scheduled from June 30-July 22 2012 and cyclists will cover a total distance of 3, 4969 kilometres through the gruelling three-weeks of racing.
