Team Peterson explains the scenario – Boxing News
After the grudge rematch scheduled for May 19 got cancelled, Team Peterson went ahead to issue a letter of explanation to the fans. The current IBF and WBA light welterweight champion lost his credibility after being tested positive for a drug that has been
banned. Now, his competitor and others are of the view that Peterson is a ‘cheater’. However, Peterson’s team believes that the champion has been honest throughout and that he still is speaking the truth.
Clarifying the situation, Team Peterson’s letter read, “Team Peterson is very disappointed and distraught by the decision to cancel the May 19th rematch against Amir Khan. This is an extremely difficult decision to accept. We have always taken the position
of providing factual information rather than responding emotionally to rumors and innuendoes. We did everything that was asked of us in efforts to comply. To support our stance we provided the Nevada State Athletic Commission with a significant amount of factual
medical data in response to these allegations.”
The letter further says that Peterson went for a number of tests with independent board certified physicians and they all came to the same conclusion as of the doctor Peterson has been dealing with. According to Team Peterson, Lamont’s condition and his
treatment was a confidential matter between a doctor and his patient but now it has become a public matter in order to clarify the champion’s position.
Team Peterson claimed that Lamont Peterson was the match who recommended Olympic style drug testing for the rematch, which makes him a true advocate of drug free boxing. Moreover, the letter states that Peterson, in his 18 year career, has never been involved
in illegal activities and he has never failed a single drug test. Peterson’s team is confident of his role and claims that it will stand by him no matter what happens. The letter also reads that Peterson was more than willing to step in the ring against Khan
once again and he could have done anything for that.
According to Team Peterson, the champion is a man of character and his work ethics are second to none. Lastly, the letter says that the whole team will stand by the champion until the matter is resolved.
