Team Rabobank not happy with its current 2012 performance
Team Rabobank struggled during the first part of the 2012 season. It has registered some good victories but also had some near podium misses in the season.
The team currently occupies the 11th overall spot at the UCI Team’s rankings with a total number of 198 points to its credit.
Bauke Mollema secured the third podium spot during the Tour of Basque Country and helped the side with a healthy contribution of 75 UCI points.
Matti Breschel made the second biggest contribution with his 3rd place finish at the Gent-Wevelgem and 9th at the Tour of Flanders, he added 60 points.
Lars Boom, Michael Matthews and Luis Leon Sanchez chipped in 40, 16 and 7 points with their support during the different events at the earlier part of the season.
Boom finished sixth during the Paris-Roubaix, Theo Bos achieved the third spot during Scheldeprijs and Matti Breschel’s ninth place finish during the Tour of Flanders was not good enough to challenge the top cycling teams in the contest.
Team Manager Harald Knebel told nusport.nl, “We were close to the podium. But you're never satisfied because you want to win”.
"And that's what I want to see, even later in the climbing classics. In the beginning of the season I have not seen it, but this indicates that the level is there".
The team is currently doing its home work to ensure that it improves the overall position at the team’s ranking.
"It's really clear to our team. There are conversations in which we let them know that we expect more but we keep internal".
"You know when coaching: one time it's a kick in the a*s, the next time, a pat on the head. Who we do what to, and when, stays internal”.
Team Rabobank was founded in 1984 and it rode under the name Kwantum through 1984-86.
It has operated under different names over the time including, Superconfex (1987-1989) and Team Buckler (1990-1992), Team Wordperfect (1993-1994), Team Novell (1995) and goes by the name Team Rabobank since 1996.
The Dutch team is now targeting the coming events of the season and is optimistic to improve its overall position in the future events.
