Team RadioShack-Nissan cyclists refused to talk on Johan Bruyneel
Team RadioShack-Nissan cyclists were busy riding the final stage of the Tour of Beijing 2012 when the news of their Team Manager Johan Bruyneel broke into the Luxembourg team camp.
The team decided to part ways with Bruyneel following the USADA investigation related to his stay in Team US Postal through 1999-2007.
The 48-year-old took his first Managerial job in the American team and is currently under accusations of trafficking and monitoring UCI banned substances within the team.
He also represented Team Astana (2008-09), Team RadioShack (2010-11) and finally joined Team RadioShack-Nissan in its debut season in 2012.
It was rumoured that Andy Schleck and Johan had their issues right after he took the management position in Team RadioShack-Nissan after the new team was announced, merging Team Leopard Trek and Team RadioShack.
When asked about the Bruyneel’s exit from the side until the final decision is made by USADA, Andy refused to mark any comments.
“I am in China for the Tour of Beijing, I’m not going to talk about Johan Bruyneel,” he noted.
Jan Bakelants also kept quite when asked about Belgian, “Riding my bike is my job and everything that comes around it doesn’t interest me,” he cited.
While talking to Cyclingnews from Beijing, Daniele Bennati explained that the team has decided not to talk on the issue until they return back home.
“We said that we wouldn’t make any comment about the matter. Of course, there was a bit of apprehension”.
“I think that’s normal, but we can’t make any comment about it because they are old stories that don’t involve us.”
Tour of Beijing is Bennati’s last race with the Luxembourg team as the Italian has pledged his future with Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank for the 2013 season.
Daniele joined Team Leopard Trek in 2011 and was chosen to ride along Team RadioShack-Nissan for the 2012 season.
“I came to Leopard to what should have been a long-term project. But I wasn’t unhappy this year or last.” he said.
Team RadioShack-Nissan finished the last World Tour race of the season, the Tour of Beijing at the fourth position with a deficit of 2 minutes and 29 seconds on the race leader, Team Liquigas-Cannondale.
Team Euskaltel-Euskadi and Team Astana achieved the second and the third positions in the respective order.
