Team Sauber growth suffers due to a poor financial outlook – Formula 1
Team Sauber’s principal, Peter Sauber, has recently admitted that his team needs to improve its performance and in order to do that the team needs to attract more sponsors as the team plans to progress even further in Formula 1.
“The situation as a whole for our team already looks a lot healthier than it did 12 months ago. 2010 was a very difficult year for us. The transformation from a works team back to a private set-up used up a lot of our energy, and at the start of the season
in particular, our results on the track were extremely poor,” said Peter.
He believes that before the 2011 Formula 1 season began and since the team was not strong enough, it was “virtually impossible” to find sponsors but luckily, the team found some sponsors and now they are not driving a “blank” car.
Other than that, he stated that the team had some pretty good plans to improve its performance but in order to do that, money is required because Formula 1 is not just a “motorsport”, it is also a technological sport which requires money in order to buy
and build new devices or parts which enable a driver to perform at his best, compared to the rest of the teams on the grid. “Inevitably in a team of our size, where the engineers' ideas outweigh the resources available to them, additional financial resources
are reflected directly in performance. We're therefore continuing our search for sponsors,” he said.
He added that the team is looking pretty good this season as compared to the last couple of seasons and after the Chinese Grand Prix’s result, the team is statistically quite competitive.
However, the team principal believes that in order to maintain its performance, the team needs to improve its car even more. He pointed out the fact that competitor teams are improving its car and in order to keep up with the pace of the rest of the teams,
Sauber needs to find some sponsors or investors in order to improve its performance even more.
Sauber is aware of the fact that most of the teams are improving their respective cars before the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix, which is expected to take place in a little over two weeks time. Due to this long break, the teams are trying their best to upgrade
their respective cars as much as they can.
On top of that, the Turkish Grand Prix is the first of the European races on the Formula 1 calendar and it is expected that these races are going to be even more competitive and difficult for the drivers.
Team Sauber is expected to bring in some major upgrades before the Spanish Grand Prix and the team is hoping to compete for points at each race this season.
