Team Sauber principal Peter Sauber says team breeding ground for rookie drivers – Formula 1 news
Team Sauber principal Peter Sauber has said that his team is the best place for brushing up the rookie drivers of Formula 1.
The team has introduced Sergio Perez in the 2011 Formula 1 season who is looking pretty good already. Perez has been the only driver to pull off a one-pit strategy this year during the season-opening Australian Grand Prix which was quite impressive as none
of the drivers could manage to do the same.
Other than that, Kamui Kobayashi joined the team when he had just two races to his credit and since then, he has been giving some promising performances for his team. For his superb show for the team, he was voted as the best rookie of the year for the 2010
Formula 1 season.
On top of that, the team gave debuts to drivers like Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe Massa, Robert Kubica and the reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel.
Peter stated that taking new drivers in the team is quite risky but that is something the team needs to do in order to excel in the sport.
“I am particularly pleased that once more it has paid off to work with young drivers. To go with a rookie is always a risk, but it has worked for us again this time,” said Sauber.
Besides that, the team boss added that Sauber are more like a breeding ground for all of the drivers which “turns exciting prospects in to consistent Formula 1 drivers.”
“It's not just about making the right choice, but just as much important to give them an environment where they can develop. I think that without exaggeration I can say that for a F1 rookie there is no better place than Sauber,” said the owner of the Switzerland-based
team.
Team Sauber have been performing pretty well so far in the 2011 season as Kamui Kobayashi is currently in 10th place in the drivers’ standings with 7 points. However, their other driver Sergio Perez has been unable to score a single point in the
first three races despite his impressive performances.
However, Perez is hoping to score his first points in the sport at the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix which is expected to take place in Istanbul this weekend.
