Team Saxo Bank -Tinkoff Bank retained Jesus Hernandez and Benjamin Noval
Alberto Contador’s two of the most dependable domestiques, Jesus Hernandez and Benjamin Noval have signed up with Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank for the season ahead.
Hernandez will stay with the team for the three more years while Noval has penned a one-year deal with the team.
Both Noval and Hernandez has ridden with the Spaniard since 2007 and 2008 and the duo has made major contributions in many of his victories.
"For me Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank is in many ways one of the best teams in the world. Secondly, Alberto is part of this team," Noval said.
While commenting on the new contract, Hernandez noted that signing up with the Danish team was an easy decision as he has a good understanding with the team management and the riders in Team Saxo Bank-Sax Bank.
Team General Manager, Bjarne Riis was delighted with the agreement and noted that their support can really make a huge difference in the season ahead.
Contador’s recent victory at the Vuelta a Espana is a living proof of the contributions made by Jesus and Benjamin and without their support the Spaniard might not have achieved the top overall spot at the race.
"Jesus and Benjamin have been very important in our win in the Vuelta, because of their dedication and loyalty towards Alberto and the team,” Riis said.
“Benjamin is the experienced and hardworking guy, who protects Alberto in the peloton, and Jesus is not only an asset on the climbs, but also a training companion of Alberto”.
“At the same time both of them are great personalities to work with, so it was natural to renew their contracts".
Bjarne Riis is hiring all the top cyclists to ensure his team’s improved performance in the season ahead.
He had to face the appointment after the CAS banned his star rider, Contador for a period of two year which almost cost him the World Tour licence.
However, Riis has done well to cope-up with the situation as he not only held the side together but also managed to find a new sponsor, Tinkoff Bank for the season.
It will be interesting to see, how Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank performs in the season ahead as the new management has high expectations from the side.
