Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank roaster keep on expanding, Jonathan Cantwell joins in
Jonathan Cantwell has successfully extended his stay with Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank for one more year as announced by the team earlier.
After spending a period of four-years with the professional continental teams through 2008-11, the cyclist earned himself a promotion at the top level of the sport by signing a one-year deal with the team in 2012.
He helped the team with two stage victories during the Tour de Taiwan and also managed to finish seven during the Trofeo Migjorn 2012.
The cyclist worked really hard throughout the year and raced for almost 80 days during the year, including the Tour de France 2012.
The 30-year-old is relieved and knowing that his future for at least one year is safe, is definitely a big pressure off his shoulders.
"I’m super motivated at the moment which is really important for the end of the season, the form is there and the team is super strong,” he told Cyclingnews.
“"Paris-Tours will be a long day but the distance won’t be a problem”.
“Robbie [McEwen] has won it a few times so that gives me confidence knowing a fellow Gold Coast sprinter can it".
"To come into races next year and to know where I made mistakes as a sprinter during this year means I’m heading into next season knowing how to rectify those errors and improve my results. Next year is going to be awesome".
The 2012 season had really been one of the most difficult ones for Team Saxo Bank and Riis deserves a lot of appreciation for pulling the team out of crisis.
After losing Alberto Contador for the 2010 Tour de France doping scandal, the team was on the verge of losing its World Tour licence.
However, Bjarne used all his experience to lift the team up and managed to find the new sponsor, Tinkoff Bank for the 2013 season.
The team has hired a lot of new riders on its squad to ensure its improved performance for the season ahead.
The new hires in the Danish side include Nicolas Roche from AG2R La Mondiale, Daniele Bennati from Team RadioShack-Nissan, Marko Kump from Team Adria Mobil, Jay Mc Carthy from Team Jayco-AIS and Jonathan Cantwell.
Daniel Navarro and David Tanner have left Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank and will be seen in Team Cofidis and Team Rabobank colours in the coming seasons.
Michael Morkov, Manuele Boaro, Benjamin Noval and Jesus Hernandez have been re-signed by the team for the season ahead after their admirable performances to help the team throughout the season.
Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank currently occupies the 15th overall position after the UCI World Tour team’s rankings with only 385 UCI points in its bag.
Alberto Contador was a late entrant in the season but he still is the team’s top contributor with his 290 UCI points contribution after his only three World Tour appearances this year.
