Team Saxo Bank join hands with Tinkoff Bank for the remaining part of the 2012 season
Team Saxo Bank’s General Manager, Bjarne Riis revealed that he has accepted an offer from Tinkoff Bank as a new co-sponsor for the team.
It is believed that the new sponsor’s logo will show on the Danish Team’s jersey in the remaining part of the 2012 season.
The squad will now be known as Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank for the rest of the 2012 season.
Bjarne is happy with the union and noted that signing the new deal just ahead of the Tour de France was very crucial and it will remove all the uncertainties that were growing amongst the riders.
Team Saxo Bank was on the verge of losing its World Tour licence after UCI disqualified Alberto Contador and all his victories since the Tour de France 2010.
The Spaniard helped the side with almost 70 % of the victories in the past season and his elimination raised questions marks on the team’s World Tour status.
Signing the new deal is a big sigh of relief for the whole Team Saxo Bank squad and it will give them a new motivation for the second Grand Tour race of the season, the Tour de France 2012.
“To me, it is a dream to have two partners like that, who want to be the best in their area, which exactly the same as what I want,” Riis voiced.
“I want to be the best in my area and I would say that as of today, we are on are way to building that up again”.
Bjarne refused to disclose the exact budget for the team, “I am not going to tell you the budget and I am not going to tell you who is coming to the team – yet”.
“The plan is be stronger and the plan is to win races,” he concluded.
The team will unleash the new jersey at the Tour de France which is scheduled from June 30 to July 22, 2012.
The top half of the shirt is blue in colour and represents the existing sponsor Saxo Bank, while the yellow coloured collar and the bottom half of kit displays the new sponsor, Tinkoff Bank.
