Team Sky announced its final squad for the Tour de France 2012
Team Sky has announced its powerful line-up for the most awaited cycling race of the season, the Tour de France.
The team will be led by Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish and, the team’s General Manager David Brailsford is content with the selection.
The duo will be accompanied by the likes of Edvald Boasson Hagen, Richie Porte and Christopher Froome.
Mark Cavendish has an outstanding Grand Tour record and his current form makes him a strong podium contender at the event.
He secured stages at the Tour of Qatar, Tirreno-Adriatico, Giro d’Italia, and the Ster ZLM Toer.
The reigning UCI Road World Champion secured his first overall victory of the career at the Ster ZLM Toer.
“It's a dream to ride for a team that holds so much British interest and has a chance to win the yellow jersey,” he said.
“I know the push for the GC podium will make it more difficult for me to repeat the success I've enjoyed the last few years”.
“But I'll compete and - as always - I'll dedicate myself to making it a successful Tour for Team Sky and, let's hope, for Britain.”
Team’s Sports Director David Brailsford is optimistic that Cavendish will again target the point’s classification like the previous year.
Bradley Wiggins will be the team’s General Classifications contender and he is a definite podium contender for the coming event.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time and I’ll do everything I can to win the Tour de France,” he noted.
He believes that Team Sky is sending one of the strongest Tour squads and is positive about the coming Grand Tour.
Wiggins is having an outstanding season and currently occupies the second overall spot after the UCI World Tour Elite Men Individual rankings.
He is holding the second spot with 366 UCI points in his pocket, Joaquim Rodriguez of Team Katusha is leading the team’s classifications with 404 points.
