Team Sky will ride the Paris-Nice with no major changes in its squad
Team Sky had a terrific start to the New Year after Richie Porte helped the side with the overall win at the Volta ao Algarve 2012.
The side is currently focussing at the Paris-Nice and it is believed that the team will be built around Bradley Wiggins for the coming race.
Porte briefed about the French race, “It won’t be too much of a different team to this one, and we’ll go there with Bradley and it would be great to repay him for all the help he’s given me at this race”.
“We’ll see what happens at the race but common sense is that I’ll support him. He’s one of the best stage racers out there,” he concluded.
Wiggins also started his 2012 campaign at the Volta ao Algarve and claimed the individual time trial, stage 5 of the race and also finished third overall after the final general classifications.
Porte claimed his first ever win at the Portuguese race and overcame Tony Martin with a margin of 37 seconds and Bradley Wiggins by 44 seconds.
The Australian opened his 2012 winning account by winning the 194.6 kilometre stage 3 of the race and continued his dominance on the leader’s jersey to fill his bag with the overall win at the race.
The cyclist admired his team’s performance during the event and also credited Bobby Julich for his endless efforts that helped him throughout the race.
Porte represented Team Saxo Bank from 2010 to 2011 and Julich coached him during the time. The duo is now reunited at the British team and their winning combination has already produced the desired results for David Brailsford.
Richie briefed, “He’s [Bobby Ullrich] changed my training around a little bit and it’s nice to come out have this result”.
The 27-year-old’s main job in the Danish side was to assist Contador during the Grand Tours, which left him with very few options to race for himself.
Porte is now part of a strong Team Sky line-up and is looking ahead to continue his splendid form at the 70th edition of the Paris-Nice, starting from March 4th, 2012.
