Team Sweden and its chances; Robin Soderling absent from line-up – Davis Cup 2011
Sweden is one of the most successful nations with seven Davis Cup triumphs and has won six of their titles after the creation of the World Group in 1981. The Swede’s first victory was in 1975 led by Bjorn Borg an. As of February
2007 Sweden has managed to win fifty three wins.
According to the International Tennis Federation (ITF)-Davis Cup 2011 Sweden is ranked tenth in the list. Sweden along with USA and Czech Republic hold the record for the most World Group appearances and also for the most number
of comebacks, five, from 0-2 down.
Last year the team had lost in the first round of the World Group, falling to then fifth seeded Team Argentina. Lead by legend Thomas Enqvist this year, Sweden moved into the quarterfinals after upsetting seventh seeded Team Russia
3-2 in the first round.
In the absence of Robin Soderling, headlining the team is world number 297, Michael Ryderstedt. Born on 12th November 1984, the left hander became a professional tennis player in 2002. Being a fresh candidate he is likely
to put in tremendous effort, though chances of matching Serbia’s top fifty player seem slim.
Following Ryderstedt in the lineup is Ervin Eleskovic. Born on 8th of May 1987, Eleskovic currently holds 355th position in the singles ranking and 914th rank in doubles. This year is his debut
in the Davis Cup. With 16 wins with 7 losses in singles and 3 wins and 2 losses in doubles, he has potential and at such a young age can show wonders.
Joining the other two is a doubles specialist, Robert Lindstedt. Born on the 19th of March 1977, the Swede became a professional player in 1998. His specialty game is doubles with two handed backhand. His current raking
in doubles is 14 as of July 2011. His chances of winning doubles are likely against Serbia however, he needs to be watchful of Nenad Zimonjic.
Last but not the least is another doubles specialist, Simon Aspelin. Born n the 11th of May 1974, Aspelin is currently ranked outside the top 50 in doubles, holding the 54th position. He has the experience
and can certainly be a boost in the doubles rubber against Serbia.  A great moment in history for Aspelin's career was when he and doubles partner Todd Perry played at the 2006 Wimbledon championships quarterfinals.
Sweden and Serbia are meeting for the first time in the quarter finals of the Davis Cup. All bets are put up on Serbia to qualify for this round. Even though the match is going to be tough for Sweden, they will put a good fight.
Sweden has had a faultless victory prior to this match let’s see what the Swede’s have in store for us.
