Team USA go berserk in the third quarter to thump Tunisia 110-63 - London Olympics Men Basketball Recap Part 1
In their second preliminary round game at the London Olympics 2012, team USA shrug of a slow start in the game, which eventually turned out to be a blowout as the Americans went past Tunisia 110-63.
The Americans had six players scoring in double figures and to cap off an excellent night, every player on the roster was able to open their scoring accounts.
Carmelo Anthony led the way with 16 points as he became one of two American players to finish the game without having missed a single shot. He converted all of his six attempts from the field.
The other American player connecting on all of his field goal attempts was Anthony Davis who shot the ball 5 of 5 from the field – all on alley oop passes - to finish with 12 points in just 14 minutes of playing time.
The American camp got a scare when they saw Kevin Love go down after banging his knee. However Love returned to action shortly after icing his knee and managed to knock down the last two triples in the game. He finished the night
with 16 points while shooting the ball 6 of 9 from the field.
Kevin Durant made his way to 13 points in the game while fellow Oklahoma City Thunder team-mates, Russell Westbrook and James Harden added 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Tunisian effort was led by power forward Macram Ben Romdhane who finished with a game high total of 22 points while Mohamed Hadidane chipped in 11 points.
Tunisia held an 8-4 advantage after the first three minutes and up until the 2:39 mark in the opening period, they were able to remain ahead 15-12. However the remaining time in the first quarter saw team USA shake off the rusty
start and close the frame on a 9-0 run which saw them take a 21-15 advantage.
The start of second quarter saw the Americans continue to dominate the proceedings as they opened up the stanza with an 8-2 run.
Tunisia tried their best to stay in the game but were unable to cope with the speed of the Americans, who shifted gears and never looked back in the game.
The last few minutes of the first half saw Tyson Chandler, Harden and Durant do most of the scoring for the Americans. These three combined to score the last 13 points to end the second quarter while holding Tunisia to only 6 points.
After the first half, team USA held a comfortable 46-33 advantage.
