Team USA go berserk in the third quarter to thump Tunisia 110-63 - London Olympics Men Basketball Recap Part 2
If the first half was dominating to some, the start to the second was just phenomenal from Team USA.
The Americans came out of the break with a whole new level of intensity. They launched a 10-0 run to start the proceedings which prolonged their advantage above 20 points. After taking such a huge advantage, the American would
have been expected to slow down. However that did not happen and the scoring barrage continued.
USA held Tunisia to only three points in the first 6 minutes while destroying the defense of the Africans. From 3:34 till the 3:08 mark of the third quarter, Tunisia did get some kind of offense going when they scored five unanswered
points with three of them coming from their leading scorer in the game, Romdhane.
However that run was short lived as everything returned to its usual manner in the last two minutes of the stanza. Americans closed out the period on a 10-3 run, with six of them coming on three pointers from LeBron James and James
Harden.
The Americans brushed aside Tunisia 39-14 in the third quarter, making the remaining portion of the matchup a mere formality.
With the game wrapped up, the Americans used the fourth quarter to test out the subs and tried different combinations. Tunisia scored 1 point from a free throw to start the fourth quarter but USA added 7 quick unanswered points
to take a 92-48 lead. The Africans started to make some inroads after relying mostly on their bigs to muscle into the paint, but their efforts were only to salvage some pride.
In the last few minutes of the game, team USA saw Kevin Love return back after banging his knee earlier in the game. The NBA three-point champion from last season made a strong return to the game with back to back threes to cap
of an impressive night for team USA.
USA dominated the Tunisians in every facet of the game. They shot 61.4 percent from the floor in comparison to a 35.4 percent effort from the Africans, who got outrebounded by 43-31, out-assisted by 28-12 and also had 6 more turnovers
that USA, at 15.
