Team USA sets the records tumbling in an 83 point rout of Nigeria – London Olympics Basketball 2nd Half Recap
The start of second half saw Anthony Davis take to court for team USA and he immediately opened his scoring account via an alley oop dunk on an assist from Carmelo Anthony. The next four points were scored by Nigeria which was followed by a deuce from Anthony, who then got fouled on the next possession and made 1 of 2 free throws.
At the 7:06 mark, Anthony made his sixth triple of the game to take his tally to a total of 24, only to follow it up by making another four from long range to add 12 more points in a quick succession.  On the other hand, the Africans were missing one shot after another.
Anthony was not the only player on the American roster running riot. From the 3:23 mark till the 2:41 mark of the third quarter, Russell Westbrook scored all 8 points for team USA and took his total to 15 points.
To wrap up the proceedings for the third quarter, Westbrook added another deuce on an assist from Kevin Love.
USA pounded 41 points in the third stanza while Nigeria were only able to record 17 points. The proceedings of the final quarter had been made a formality but that did not mean the Americans were going to relax one bit. It took them exactly a minute of the final stanza to get going but when they did, USA showed no signs of slowing down.
Chris Paul started the scoring in the period by connecting from long range which was followed up a deuce from Davis who made the best of the playing time available to him.
Ike Diogu opened up Nigeria’s scoring account in the quarter only to find Andre Iguodala connecting from long range. The 28 year small forward out of Philadelphia 76ers made back to back three pointers to take the American tally to 130 points in the game.
While the Americans continued to add to their score, Diogu seemed to be the only player from Nigeria who seemed to offer any kind of resistance in the game. He continued to carry the scoring for his team and ended the game with 27 points.
Team USA did not take their foot off the pedal even at the ending stages of the ball game as they closed out with a 20-5 run and ensuring a 83 point record breaking victory and set their highest point differential in the Olympic history.
