Team Williams finally reveals its livery for the 2011 Formula 1 season
Team Williams recently revealed its 2011 livery finally at its factory in Didcot, United Kingdom.
The new livery has the tag of the team’s new sponsor PDVSA that is an oil company from Venezuela. Other than that, the new livery looks quite similar to the team’s 90s car that was sponsored by Rothmans back then.
The team signed Pastor Maldonado, a Venezuelan driver mainly because of the fact that he was bringing a major sponsor with him. Williams were going through some major financial crisis but it seems that the team is now financially stable thanks to some new
sponsors they received for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
However, it is believed that the team openly chose ‘money over talent’ as the team kept Rubens Barrichello but released Nico Hulkenberg, who gave an outstanding performance in his debut season in the sport in 2010 in order to accommodate Pastor for a full
season drive at the team.
Nico scored an unbelievable pole position during the Brazilian Grand Prix and his fastest time during the qualifying session was almost a second faster than the top running drivers even though his Williams was nothing as compared to the top running teams’
cars.
Team Williams was unable to give a very good performance in the 2010 Formula 1 season as they finished in 6th place almost 100 points behind Renault in 3rd place. However, since the team had two very good drivers, they were able to
score some good points individually even though their car was very reliable. Rubens Barrichello finished in 10th place while his teammate Nico Hulkenberg finished in 14th place.
Nevertheless, their 2011 Formula 1 car was launched in Valencia before the 1st pre-season test session that took place 3 weeks ago and the team seems quite confident about its 2011 run as they believe that they have produced a car which is going
to enable its drivers to perform better than they did in 2010.
The team has been performing pretty well at the pre-season test sessions of the 2011 Formula 1 season and it seems that they are happy with the results their new car is currently producing. With just one more pre-season test session left to go before the
2011 Formula 1 season begins, the team hopes to make use of it the most and attain some more data in order to improve their 2011 car, the FW33.
It would be interesting to see how the team performs at the first grand prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season that is expected to take place in Australia now on March 27 as compared to its rivals Force India and Renault.
