Team Williams hopes to score its first points at Turkish Grand Prix – Formula 1
Team Williams’ technical director, Sam Michael, has recently revealed that the team has applied some upgrades to its car for the upcoming race that is expected to take place in Turkey and as a result, the team is hoping to score its first points of the 2011
Formula 1 season.
Williams has been struggling to perform up until now. They recently finished behind Team Lotus at the Chinese Grand Prix which was quite disappointing for the team. This has been the worst start the team has ever had in its history and since the team was
expecting a lot this year, they have not been able to recover or solve their current problems until now.
Both of the drivers, Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado, have not had any success on the track until now. Michael is hoping that the team has the ability to turn the tables and put an end to their “pointless” start.
“We are introducing a modified floor, new front wing, new rear wing and new brake ducts to both cars for Istanbul. We expect this to give us a few tenths to help our drivers get into the top ten,” said Sam.
The team gave a pretty good performance in the 2010 Formula 1 season with Nico Hulkenberg’s pole position scoring run at the Brazilian Grand Prix as the highlight of their season.
The fans were expecting a lot from Team Williams this year as they were looking pretty decent until the pre-season testing period. Many observers stated that the top running teams of the 2011 Formula 1 season are going to include Williams and Lotus Renault
GP as well. Lotus Renault GP has proved that they have the capability to challenge the top running teams of the sport this year. The team’s drivers have finished on the podium twice in just three races.
Ferrari on the other hand has been lacking, as they are yet to score a podium finish. Mercedes GP is also in the doldrums as well. They are struggling to perform alongside the top teams but they are improving as Nico Rosberg recently finished in fifth place
at the Chinese Grand Prix after leading the race for quite some time.
Moving on, Williams has had some troubles regarding its latest exhaust blown diffuser which seems to have caused a lot of problems for the team as their car overheats because of the device. Nevertheless, Sam is confident about the team’s upcoming run at
the Turkish Grand Prix and he is hoping for the best from the team’s new car after applying some major upgrades to it before the race weekend.
