Team Williams hoping for major improvement after upgrading diffuser – Formula 1 news
Team Williams have said that they are hoping for some major improvement in terms of statistics at this weekend’s European Grand Prix since they have upgraded their diffuser which will give them a performance boost.
The team is hoping for a double point finish as both of its drivers are improving and getting used to the technology as each race passes by and since they have solved their ‘internal issues,’ they can now move on and focus on their performance for 2011.
The team’s technical director Sam Michael has recently stated that he is hoping for a very good performance in Valencia since the teams will be allowed to use the supersoft and medium tyres as well.
“Typically the grip level is low at Valencia as it's a street circuit that takes some time to rubber up. The Pirelli tyres performed exceptionally in Monaco though, so we don't expect anything less here. Setup is geared for slow speed corner grip, but there
is also a fantastic high speed section through sector three,” said Michael.
The team’s senior driver Rubens Barrichello has been performing pretty well since the past two races as he scored points on both occasions while his teammate Pastor Maldonado was rather unlucky as he crashed out of both of the races despite the fact that
he was going pretty good.
“Valencia is very important to me. It was there that I won my first race in 2009 and it was also the 100th GP win for Brazil, so it was very special. It is a very long circuit with lots of corners so you need the car set-up for good traction. I love this
race track,” said Barrichello.
Williams managed their worst start to a Formula 1 season this year with pointless finishes at the first five races of the season. However, they have been improving massively and it is going to be an interesting race for them in Valencia for the European
Grand Prix which is scheduled to take place this weekend.
