Melbourne Renegades’ captain, Andrew Mcdonad, spoke about the chances of his team ahead of the inaugural KFC Big Bash tournament, stating that the team is in good shape to challenge the title.
McDonald, spoke on the official launch ceremony at Carriageworks, where all notable Australian personalities were present to unveil the competition.
Renegades possess a star studded line-up, which includes overseas signing of the p**i duo, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdur-Razzaq-c41689.
Apart from the two, there is plenty of experience and venom in the side, with an Australian contingent on board, including the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SW-Tait-c2616 and Dirk Nannes.
McDonald, an all-rounder himself, will captain the side and has plenty of First class experience to count for.
Regarding the formation of the team he said, “We want to make people aware of what the Renegades brand stands for and it's an exciting one with Tait and (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DP-Nannes-c1396), (Shahid) Afridi, (Abdul) Razzaq, (Brad) Hodge, (Aaron) Finch. Those guys are all entertainers
and they are guys who are going to speak their mind about the game."
The franchise will play their home ties at the Etihad Stadium, while donning a red kit. They will be coached by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-Grant-Helmot-c90344.
Many rivalries of note will be witnessed when the tournaments kicks off later this year, with the most talked about, being between the two Melbourne based franchises, Renegades and Stars.
The Melbourne Stars will be captained by Australian Twenty20 Captain, Cameron White, while coached by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Greg-Shipperd-c1507.
The all-rounder is aware of the hype but believes the tournament will be a mouth watering event considering the talent on display.
“Simon Helmot versus Greg Shipperd, that's the first battle, obviously they are going to work together (as coaches) at the Bushrangers, then they've got a rivalry as soon as they walk out the door," McDonald said.
"Then it's (Cameron) White versus McDonald as captains and the players go their own way as well."
The first match of the tournament is slated on December 16, 2011, between, Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat.
However, the two Melbourne sides will battle each other in the first week of January, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
