Team line-ups for the European Table Tennis Championship 2011 – Table Tennis News
The European Table Tennis Championships are scheduled from October 8-16 and will be held in Gdansk, Poland.
Timo Boll won the Men’s single for Germany last year as Victoria Pavlovich of the Netherlands won the Women’s single in 2010. In the Men’s doubles Timo Boll teamed up with C.Suss to win the event while R.Paskauskiene and O.Fadeeva won the Women’s doubles
last year. A total of 31 national associations are participating in the Women’s event while 41 entries have already been received for the Men’s category.
The European Table Tennis Championships initially started in 1958 and is played every two years. Both Germany and Netherlands have dominated the European Championships throughout as they get ready to defend their titles this year. Timo Boll is leading Germany
Men’s team as Li Jiao leads the Netherlands Women’s team in the Championships.
Experienced Christophe Legout will lead the French team as Emmanuel Lebesson, Adrien Mattenet, Abdel-Kader Salifou and Simon Gauzy will complete the French squad for the European Championships.
Elena Timina, Li Jie, Linda Creemers and Britt Eerland will represent the Dutch team while Christian Süss, Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Patrick and Bastian Steger will play for Germany in the European Championships 2011.
Belarus team will have the experience of Vladimir Samsonov and he will have the support of Vitaly Nekhvedovich, Pavel Platonov, Aleksandr Kuchuk and Evgueni Chtchetinine.
Poland, Germany, Croatia and Slovak Republic form group A while Belarus, England, Hungary and Russia are in group B for the Men’s championship division. Group C consists of Romania, Austria, France and Greece while Czech Republic, Portugal, Slovenia and
Sweden lies in group D for the Men’s championship division.
Poland is not considered as one of the strongest teams in the competition but there is a possibility that in front of the home crowd the Polish players might create a few upsets and relive the memorable moments of 2006, as they overcame Korea in the quarter-finals
of Liebherr World Team Championships 2005.
With just over a month to go most of the teams have already announced their final line-ups for the Championship and it will be interesting to see how the tournament unfolds. Germany’s Men and Netherland’s Women are favourites for the contest as both these
countries have won the last three continuous titles.
