Team management tells http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 players not to give statements regarding match/spot fixing
As Pakistan gear up to take on the Kiwis, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, they have been advised by the touring management to avoid statements regarding match fixing and spot fixing.
According to sources, team manager Intikhab Alam said that the players have been instructed not to give any comments concerning the ongoing spot fixing fiasco, which has some Pakistani players (Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad
Asif) involved in. Alam made it clear to the press that any questions regarding the spot fixing dilemma will not be answered by the team management or by the players.
According to the team manager, the players are concentrating on their real purpose and that is to play good cricket against the home side and not get themselves involved in controversies regarding spot fixing.
These latest instructions have come in the wake of the recent events that have diminished Pakistan cricket’s standing in the world of cricket. Among these events, the main cause of concern was the disappearance of wicketkeeper
Zulqarnain Haider during an ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE), and when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) failed in stopping Haider from giving statements to the press it showed the board’s weaknesses in its public relations
department.
Haider made a complete mess of the situation by posting statements demonising Pakistan Cricket and the country’s cricket board as well. The PCB, in order to save itself from any more embarrassments, has clearly forbidden the players
from making any interactions with the press regarding the spot fixing issue.
Earlier, before the team departed for New Zealand, the PCB ordered the players not to use any social networking websites.
The PCB wants to have a controversy free tour and for that, the board has taken great pain in order to make sure that the Pakistani players have lesser interaction with individuals who are not related to the management.
This month it was made clear to the players that only the head coach Waqar Younis, team manager Intikhab Alam and Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 will have the privilege of talking with the media, the rest of the squad has clearly been ordered
to stay away from giving any statements of any kind to anyone.
