Team players needed, not stars, says Bangladesh coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-Alexander-Pybus-c84844 – Cricket News Update
Newly appointed head coach of Bangladesh, Richard Pybus, on Monday stressed the need for encouraging team players rather than those who play for personal glory and reputation.
The 47-year-old Englishman is keen on developing Bangladesh cricket team into a contingent that can take on stronger teams and for the very reason, he said there is no room for stardom in his side.
Pybus, in his first media interaction since taking over the Bangladesh coaching job, said, “If you've got stars, you don't have a team. I think the goal is to have a very strong team, where the players are
playing for each other. It is important to leave our egos to one side and play for the badge and the country, making that the commitment. When you have a 'star' system, you've got problems.”
Pybus’ first assignment with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and Zimbabwe. The series which has not received international status will be an away trip for the Bangladeshi’s
as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 host them.
The Englishman is happy to start his tenure with an away series, as he believes that he’ll get a chance to interact with players more freely. Pybus held that there are lesser distractions in an away series,
thus coach and players get more time to adjust together.
The 47-year-old is against making drastic changes in the squad and will watch how the team works in the tri-nation series before introducing changes.
Pybus, who took over the coaching role from former Australian cricketer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 to build on their recent success in the 2012 Asia Cup, where they finished runner-ups. The head coach
would want Bangladesh to transform their improved limited over performance to Test cricket.
The Englishman said, “Test cricket is really the tree that grows your players. I am looking forward to playing stronger nations in Tests. As we work through the cricketing schedule, we'll make sure that
we are doing everything in our power to be fully prepared.”
