Anderson expressed that only some of the seasoned players were allowed to express their views during the team meetings then, which lead to a downfall in the side’s spirit as well as performance on the field.
"When I started playing, that wasn't the case. There would be a few senior voices in the dressing room and that would be it, and maybe that's why we weren't as successful then," said Anderson.
In the last five years, the 29-year-old cricketer himself has played a massive role in England’s success at the world-stage. In an illustrious career so far, Anderson has grabbed 268 Test wickets in 71 matches, to go with his 216
ODI victims. Majority of his Test scalps have come since 2007, helping his country conquer the cricketing world.
Anderson further added that Flower has made the English team more honest, being able to analyze their flaws with an open mind, which he thinks has been the key behind England’s triumphs in the recent times.
Being an integral part of the side, the fast bowler is extremely disappointed after the Oval debacle but claims that his team is concentrating on the remaining two encounters against the Proteas, in order to retain their title as
the globe’s best Test unit.
"Now the honesty we have and the respect we have for each other means that when someone speaks, everyone listens, no matter who they are. We don't sit there for hours talking drivel. It could be 10 minutes, it could be half an hour
but then it's done," the England fast bowler added. "You move on and you focus on what you can do better at Headingley."
The second Test of the series is going to commence on August 2 at Headingley, which will be followed by the Lord’s Test. After that, the two teams will lock horns in the limited-overs battle, which comprises of five ODIs and three
