Teammates back Indianapolis Colts’ QB Andrew Luck for his own game-style, not copying Peyton Manning
Indianapolis Colts’ players have backed rookie quarterback, Andrew Luck, to work his own way through to the top instead of looking to duplicate the team’s former star, QB Peyton Manning.
Peyton played for Colts continuously since 1998 before being let go in March 2012, and some commentators see the rookie achieving the level of success his predecessor had done.
His teammates do not buy those expectations, emphasising the player should concentrate on his own game style, strengths and weakness, for his career progression.
Colts cornerback, Kevin Thomas, said:
"Nobody can duplicate what Peyton Manning did. Luck is just going to be himself and progress at his own pace. We are expecting great things out of him, but we understand he is a rookie and he is going to have to put in that work."
Kevin, who missed the entire 2010 season with a knee injury and could only manage nine games in 2011, is back in the squad with full fitness and form.
He has lately been taking part in some workout activity with Andrew at the team’s headquarters, and apparently is impressed with the rookie’s form level.
Yet he has offered the piece of advice to the player not to heed too much to the outside views and concentrate on his natural game.
He warned the player to avoid getting into comparisons discussions led by certain analysts, adding he cannot duplicate the league’s only four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP), Manning.
Luck, who is coming out of the colleague league as the top QB, has all what it takes to be one of the most successful offence leaders in the professional league. Still, as pointed out by his colleague, he just like any other player has
a game style and strategy quite different to Manning’s.
Away from the outside opinion, the rookie himself has not spoken anything that should consider him in direct competition with Peyton Manning. As a matter of fact, he is yet to have a real chance to perform.
So far, he has only participated in the rookies’ minicamp, and is yet to be part of a formal training activity since returning from his college.
