Teammates content with club win as Coco Crisp returns to knock the lights out of the Texas Rangers
Coco Crisp was a figure highly missed in the Oakland Athletics lineup, missing from the squad since his last game against the Los Angeles Angels on the 26th of April in which he went 1-for-2, absent in the second game against the American League
West rivals. Going up against the Texas Rangers on Monday, 2nd May, Crisp returned with a triumphant 2-for-5 feat, registering a batting average of .292.
The centre-field player scored his first run in the game with a double right smashed to the deep right by Conor Jackson in the first innings.
In the second innings, the outfielder again played a major role, singling to the left and allowing Andy LaRoche to score the fourth run in the game.
Gio Gonzalez, who started for the A’s, was content with the result and he praised Crisp as much as he could have.
"First off, it was exciting to have run support", Gonzalez said. "And second off, Coco's hair, wow. He kind of like gave it a second chance. He was going with that ponytail look and a couple of the players got on him and said, 'You know what, you've got
to give a second chance for that Afro. Bring it back.' And it worked. I don't think he's going to braid his hair for quite a while now. We're going to be seeing the Oscar Gamble for a while. Keep it, Coco. It's going to work for you".
LaRoche was also willing to talk about the outfielder.
Prior to his injury, Crisp had a batting average of .286, and now that figure has increased due to a good knock with the bat.
"He was really hot before he got hurt", LaRoche said.
The player continued his praises for Crisp and explained that the hitter’s absence never took its toll on his game. It felt like he had never missed a game.
On the second pitch of the game, a double, and on the very next pitch, a RBI (Runs batted in), marked his return. Crisp looked right on the mark.
In the end, the third baseman was happy to see his teammate back in the squad.
