Teams contact St Louis Rams for potential trade of QB Robert Lee Griffin III if drafted - NFL News
A number of potential suitors are reported to have approached St. Louis Rams for the possible trade of the second seeded draft pick, Robert Lee Griffin III, after the player is signed by the team.
Rams qualify to select Griffin III, also known as RG3, this draft season, which will begin in April, and the team is reported to have shown willingness to trade the quarterback with any franchise from the National Football League (NFL) if a suitable proposal
is received.
Griffin III has refrained from throwing football in the ongoing NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, but has exceeded the teams’ expectations in all other measureable counts such as height and weight.
The player, who is coming out of the American college football league as a quarterback from Baylor College, has been measured as a top draft prize along with the draft leader, Stanford College’s QB, Andrew Luck.
Luck is qualified to go the Indianapolis Colts, who under the NFL rules are eligible to sign him.
It is not clear yet that the team will go for Luck only, as the owner, Jim Irsay, in one of his remarks has hinted to look at the profile of both the players before making the final call.
Irrespective to that probability, RG3 is so far a clear contender for Rams, and the team has already spoken of their interest in negotiating a deal with the player.
The deal is expected to be reached between the two parties during the draft season.
At the moment, a mock draft exercise is underway and all the teams are weighing their options on the potential draft recruitments for the 2012 NFL season.
Rams, at the same time, are said to have opened up the option of Griffin III’s trade with any other franchise on hunt for a quarterback. This, the team management said, will be possible provided a suitable deal comes by.
No one has projected the so called right package Rams are aiming for the trade, and all the talk so far is limited around the notion of possibility.
Some of the potential suitors for RG3 are the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks and Miami Dolphins.
A couple of them have also been on call for an opportunity to sign Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, who is returning from a neck injury and is uncertain to be retained by the team.
It is pertinent to mention that the league rules allow a team to sign a draft prize and then trade the player with any other team later.
For example, the Indianapolis Colts, who are expecting their star quarterback, Peyton Manning, back from injury to possibly play for them for more seasons to come, are also eligible to sign the college league star quarterback, Andrew Luck.
If they decide to keep Manning as their only quarterback in the near future, they can trade Luck with any team.
