Teams finalised for 2012 FIVB Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament – Volleyball news
The 2012 FIVB Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament is scheduled to take place from May 19-27.
Japanese city Tokyo will serve as the host to the final leg of Olympic Qualification Tournament.
In the recent memory, the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) announced the participants who will come into contest for the final four empty slots of 2012 London Olympic Games. According to the plan, Serbia, Russia, Cuba and Peru, host Japan, Korea,
Thailand and Chinese Taipei will be on board to vie for the Olympic tickets.
Serbia and Russia recently participated in the European Olympic Qualifiers but could not succeed. Serbia got disqualified in the opening round of the CEV qualification tournament. Serbia played total of three matches and finished with devastating 0-3 record.
Russia was also placed in the same group alongside Serbia but produced comparatively better results. The Russians ladies clawed their way to the final round but fell to host Turkey in the semi-final match. Russia finished in the fourth slot and dropped the
chance of qualification via European tournament.
In the next run, both these teams are going to get another chance to make it to the Olympic Games. This is a great opportunity and both teams are determined to make it happen this time. On the other hand, Caribbean ladies from Cuba came from NORCECA. Peru
could not make it in the first attempt at CSV qualifiers and settled for 2012 FIVB Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament. South Korea, Thailand, and Chinese Taipei will play at the World Qualification Tournament as Asian teams.
A total of 12 women’s teams will compete at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Eight out of 12 teams have been already confirmed for the competition. Women’s National Volleyball Team of Great Britain earned the spot for being the host nation of the 2012 Olympic
Games. Italy qualified for the Olympics via 2011 FIVB Women’s World Cup, while American team also reserved a spot after finishing as the runner-up at the same competition.
China secured third position at the 2011 FIVB Women’s World Cup and advanced to the Olympics. Hence, a total of four teams (including the hosts) qualified for the Olympic Games in 2011. The qualification process continued in 2012 and Algeria emerged as the
first team to qualify for the Olympics via Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament. Algeria topped the African Olympic Qualifiers and earned the ticket to London.
Later on, Dominican Republic demonstrated a stellar performance at the NORCECA Olympic Qualifiers and left everyone behind. DR became the sixth country to join the Olympic Games. Moreover, Turkey topped the European Olympic Qualification Tournament which
also held in Turkey. The hosts profited from home advantage and achieved desired results.
Quite recently, Brazil pulled off success in the final showdown of the 2012 CSV Women’s Olympic Qualifiers at home and stepped on the road to London.
The volleyball action is ready to start in Tokyo at the weekend. Top four teams of competition will catch the limelight and the grip of Olympic qualifiers will be completed.
