The Portuguese mentor suggested that teams qualifying from Group D in the Champions League will have gone through tougher circumstances than the other teams in the competition.
Real Madrid head coach, Jose Mourinho, opined that his side’s group in the UEFA Champions League offers more challenge and competition for the teams that have been drawn alongside them.
According to the Special One, teams progressing from the group will be put through a tougher test as compared to other clubs in the prestigious tournament. He stressed that qualification to the knock-out stages after a strenuous group stage will affect the
showing of the progressing teams in the round of 16.
Los Blancos were drawn in Group D of the coveted competition. Their competitors in this group are all domestic champions from their respective domestic leagues, therefore presenting a massively competitive scenario for the Spanish champions.
With Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax as their group mates, Madrid are joined by the English, German and Dutch champions in the group stages.
Mourinho asserted that such a tough group means that the Spanish capital-based outfit cannot afford to be sloppy at any stage until qualification to the next round is guaranteed. He maintained that any slip-up could prove to be a hefty disadvantage.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan boss expressed that all of Real Madrid’s opponents are strong and respectful teams, who will surely bring forth a serious amount of competition.
“Let me explain. We’ll have to go at full pace from the first minute in all of our group stage matches. With maximum intensity, concentration, and putting the opposition under pressure. To get through to the round of 16 will take a lot physical and mental
effort,” the 49-year-old told the club’s official website.
“The others will get through feeling fresher, without cards, without suspensions, controlling the players’ pitch time, making rotations ... many advantages that Real Madrid, Manchester City, Dortmund and Ajax will not have. We’ll reach the quarters with
a huge cumulative effort.”
Real Madrid have been tipped as heavy favourites in the Group D, and will kick start their adventures with a match-up against Manchester City on September 18.
