Tech Talk About Formula One
Formula One is not only a race of drivers rather it is a race of technology and advancemans. The engineers and the researchers that work at this part of the world are devoted to speed and pace and their super brains keep finding things to get the sport technically as advanced as possible. It would not be wrong to say that the Formula one factories move one step ahead of the world of racing.
Year after year and one race after the other the cars and the systems are designed, tested and improved to beat each other on the track. Almost every race brings forth something new for one team or the other and the balance of power (technology) keeps going on endlessly.
Let’s have a look at the advancements made by different teams for the German Grand Prix as they raced amidst all the roars and thunders of the engines and the unmatched rotations of the tyres.
Red Bull:
Their RB6 is largely considered as the fastest car of the season and that it had proved at several instances all through the season. The team had been the first one this season to use the blown diffuser which was later copied by several teams. After their installation of the system many teams brought a similar or their own version of the diffuser but none had been able to match their pace so far.
For Hockenheim, they have not come up with a lot of advancements though some minor improvements have been brought in their already fast car.
Following the controversy of Silverstone both the drivers have been given new set of front wings as well as some improvements have been made in the F-duct system, which enables the driver to activate the system from within the cockpit.
Ferrari:
As declared by Lewis Hamilton as well after the recent race, Ferrari has the second fastest car of the season. The team came up with their new front and rear wings at Silverstone and now for the Hockenheim the team came up with improvement in the exhaust system of their F10 along with modifying the side channels of the diffuser.
The team introduced their exhaust system in Valencia, Spain earlier this season however at the double flap system on the car’s front wing in order to increase its down-force.
McLaren:
They had fallen late in introducing their blown diffuser yet they had topped the charts for so long now without the system. The team that stands at the peak of both the Drivers’ as well as the Constructors’ Championship, had been able to keep hold of the top slots despite not having the fastest cars of the season. Though the team brought it out in their last race at Silverstone as well but due to some technical problems did not run it on the final race day.
However, at the German Grand Prix they had been able to clear the system completely and used it at the final race day.
Mercedes GP:
For the German Grand Prix the team came up with their new rear wing. The main plane of this new wing carries a huge opening which creates something of the same kind as the three-profile rear wing. This solution is similar to what was introduced by McLaren in Monaco last year and was later copied by BMW Sauber, however this rear wing is thought to be designed in order to work better.
Indeed, the cars and the drivers have completed the first half of the season while eight more races are yet to go for the next half of the season. The team factories are continuously busy for improvement for their current cars as well as to design the cars for the upcoming season. Let’s wait and watch what the genius guys bring up next.
