Tech problems. Can anyone figure out what this means????

Question

I was trying to install a version of Handbrake on my Windows XP. It is called Handbrake 0.9.2. It's the GUI version for windows. This is the website I downloaded it from. http://handbrake.fr/?article=download

After the download completed I tried to launch the application to install it. This is the message that came up:

Microsoft .NET runtime library v2.0 or newer is required. You have 1.1.4322. You can download .Net Framework 2 from the microsoft website. Alternatively you can use google for a direct download URL.

I have no idea what this means. If anyone can shed some light on my current situation. Please, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You can download the .Net framework here.  http://www.microsoft.com/net/Download.as...  Installing the newest version may work.  If not, old versions are at the bottom of the page.

go to the microsoft update site ... it should be an option under your All Programs list (at the top) you will have to install active x when it asks ... and a few other bits of software ... like the Microsoft Genuine Advantage application .. if your windows is legit it's no problem ....  once all that settles you'll see a list of updates you need ... among them will be the .Net Framework 2.0 and 3.0 ... just tick them to add them to the download list ..... read through all the downloads ... you may not need them all e.g. foreign language updates etc.

Go to windows updates,let it scan your computer,use the custom option and look for it in the list under optional software,it may be under optional hardware.

You need to go to Microsoft.com to download a current version of Microsoft.net.library   ---That's it. also, make sure you have all current updates for Windows XP!!

easy you have to go to www.microsoft.com and go to downloads and download Metframework 2.0 or better. Not that hard to figure out here. the message tells you what to do and where to go.

so in other words you need to update your software for that program to run.

The program you downloaded is based in a microsoft technology and requires the .NET framework 2.0 to work, this program(.NET framework) is like a complement, more like a base program for microsoft applications to running. Your version of the framework is old and your new program is not designed to run under that version and you must upgrade the version in order to install the new software, and yes, the best site to download the upgrade is the microsoft website
