A quick browse around suggests that it's a hard drive or partitioning problem. If you can boot the machine at all (or have your original XP disk handy) you can boot to a command prompt and try

chkdsk /f /r

to try to repair the file system.

The other thing to try is a memory checking program. There are some that come on a bootable cdrom (so it won't access your potentially damaged hard drive) and it might be worth running that check too.
