Technical question re: a directv HDDVR receiver?

We hooked up in December. About a month ago, I've been noticing this really high pitched bell like sound. I couldn't for the life of me figure out where it came from. One night, when all was dark and quiet, I followed the sound, and it turned out to come from the directv receiver. I can faintly hear a chime sort of mechanism inside. It gives off this high pitched sound every 2-3 minutes or so. It stopped, or I didn't notice?, for a week or so, and now it seems to be back. It actually wakes me up at night and I can hear it while we watch tv. We did purchase the insurance or whatever it's called on the receiver. How easy would it be to get a new one from them? And what about all the programs I've recorded?

Thank you so much for your suggestions.

  1. With your insurance call your provider and telle them and then tell them to swap out for new box.
