  1. look into boston whaler

  2. Tech B.

Mark T is absolutely correct, the others are not.

The key point is that it contributes "Reserve Bouyancy". It is of no use in a normal floating condition but when the hull takes on water...assuming the area of the foam containment doesn't leak...the foam will assist in floating. Depending on the amount used it will provide a percentage of floatation up to 100%.

This is why a Boston Whaler doesn't sink!...2 skins with a bouyant foam core.

  3. Tech B is correct.

Adding positive flotation actually adds weight not buoyancy to the boat. But, It also takes up space that would otherwise be occupied by water in the event of a hull breach and provides the positive floatation or additional buoyancy that it was installed for.

  4. it doesnt add buoyany but you will get a better ride from the increased weight and it would be quietier and godforbid you take on water thats when you would appriciate it

  5. B is correct, flotation adds reserve buoyancy incase the hull is breached. It has no effect innormal conditions. Example: if you filled an empty 2 litre plastic bottle with an inflated balloon, the bottle would float fine but if the cap came off and and water came into the bottle it would still float because the balloon is there with its buoyancy. It has no effect until then.
