Question:

Technician trying to blame me for something he did?

Tech pulled connector off camshaft accuator and says solenoid oil came running out. He said that I would have to pay for the solenoid replacement because I have a leak. I get the receipt saying that I stated I had an oil leak before hand...which I never said and never saw any oil ever leaking. Is this tech trying to cover up something he did?

  1. If your wording is correct and you have it in writing, contact your local Bureau of Automotive Repair. Explain what you have and let them deal with this guy. Their job is to fight for the consumer and or defend the good repair shop from fraud. To be a bit redundant, there is no camshaft actuator. There is a crank and a cam sensor but they actuate nothing, they provide information to the computer.

  2. considering there is no such thing as solenoid oil i'd say you are being scammed. I've never heard of a camshaft accuator, either those are commonly known as timing belt/chain.

Ask him if your blinker oil is ok. the is no such thing as that either.

there may be sensors etc on the camshaft.

you need to run from that guy as fast as you can. I'd say just take the loss and go to a real mechanic shop.

  3. That's foul! That tech may be a hustler or dumb. Don't be a victim. Look for another mechanic.

  4. What year, make and model of car is this? Some newer cars have what is known as VCT (variable cam timing). It is an electrically computer controlled solenoid that varies cam timing through the solenoid and is oil actuated. Could be what he is talking about, but using wrong terminology. Yes, the solenoids can leak. Cannot say if it was pre-existing or if tech did it. Complain to your local bureau of automotive regulation.

  5. This "tech" is no mechanic. He probably screwed up a part and wants you to pay for it. Go elsewhere for your repairs and tell this guy to p**s off. He is trying to baffle you with BS.

  6. "Camshaft Accuator, Solenoid Oil??" Does he know what he's talking about?? :)) Never Heard that one before!! Fine a Real Mechanic!!
