I just purchased a Samsung 32" flat panel LCD HDTV today. It won't be at the store until Wednesday. A friend of mine will hook it up for me, but I'm not sure he knows exactly what he is doing and I sure don't. I am going to buy an HDMI cable as that has been recommended at store, online and in discussion forums. I have a DVD player and HD converter box from cable company. Where does the HDMI cable go....from TV to cable box? Don't laugh, I really have no idea! Help! Thanks.

  1. The HD converter cable box has a port where you can plug the HDMI cable in, and so does the back of the tv, so just plug the HDMI cable into the tv and the other end into HD converter cable box.  The same goes for the for the DVD player.  So to do this your going to need 2 HDMI cables.  Hope this helps.

  2. The HDMI cable goes from the TV to the cable box, from the TV to the DVD player, to neither or to both.  But not the same cable if both.  What determines where is goes is do the cable box and the DVD player have this type of connection or not.  Also does the HDTV have this connection (not all HDTV sets do but I would imagine most of the newer models do).

Only High Defintion players (Blue Ray or HD-DVD) or upconverting DVD players have the connection.  Only HD capable cable boxes have the connection but some HD cable boxes only have a component video and stereo audio output (5  RCA cables go between the box and the HDTV).  So check to make sure the devices have HDMI or if you need component cables.  Older non HD devices will connect with connections that are not HD capable such as S-video or Composite Video plus Stereo Audio cables.

  3. Yup, HDMI will connect your HD cable box to your new TV. And it's impossible to mess that up so don't worry. ENJOY!
