  1. The commercial use of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides all came to use in a big way following World War II.  Hydraulics has been a major improvements for agriculture purposes.  Crossbreeding of corn or hybrid seed paved the way much the same as GMO products have continued to improve our genetic base in crop production.

Animal side of agriculture includes artificial insemination of dairy and beef cattle.  "Rural electric" brought lights and motorized equipment to the farm.  Refrigerated bulk milk tanks changed the handling of milk from the "milk cans" to the refrigerated storage and in turn brought Grade A rules for milk handling to the farm.

Rubber tires on tractors replaced the steel wheels improving traction and reducing compaction of the soil on farms.

This names several of the various improvements that we have continued to benefit from in improvements to ag technology.

  2. Encyclopedia Britannica Online may help you out quite a bit.

The link below is for the article on harvesting machinery.  Look also to the left for the link to crop processing machinery.  Embedded in the article are links to specific technologies.

In addition I googled: agriculture history technology +.edu

(+.edu limits the search to academic sites)

  3. try this link

    it deals with draft animals.

not only food, but logging too.

  4. Crossbreeding

    Fertilization

Plows (The 1st plow, such as the singing plow, by McCormick)

    Stolen research from land-grant universities

    Improved animal breeding practices

    Hybrid seed corn

    Industrial methods of production

Keep in mind 1928 is right before the great depression.
