Ok, here's the deal, my husband and I have purchased a new HDTV, a new receiver to accomodate it and the new HDTV Digital Cable box to get the full HD experience. We have it all hooked up according to all the darn diagrams and when we turn the system on, the HD channels flicker, the other channels that are not in HD are fine. Can someone please assist us on what we have done wrong or how to fix it? Thank you.

Side note: We have already considered having someone come look at it for us but we have spent quite enough money on everything else.

  1. You said "get the full HD experience" so im assuming you mean 1080p Is should only flicker when your tv is 720p and its receiving a 1080p signal and its downscaling to 720p u sure its full HD 1080 and not standard HD 720? what tv is it

  2. Do you use component or HDMI?

Does it flicker using both component and HDMI?

Do you have the video signal going directly to the TV or through the "receiver"?

Simple test: Set your set-top to 720p

Connect it directly to the TV via either component or HDMI

    Check the video

Now try with the set-top at 1080i

Make sure you use grounded power for all equipment so there is no interference.

  3. I think your HD box is setup wrong. do the following and make sure it's setup for 1080i. If that doesn't fix it, redo the setup and choose 720P and see if that fixes the problem

    Step1

    Turn OFF your HD/DVR box

    Step2

    Turn ON your HD television

    Step3

On the front of the box, look for the "info" and "guide" buttons.

    Step4

Press "info" and "guide" at the same time until you see instructions pop up on your tv screen

    Step5

When you see these instructions, let go of the buttons

    Step6

Follow the on-screen instructions on how to set up your box to display pictures in the HD (1080i) picture format. You will need your remote control handy.

  4. Have you contacted the cable company?

Maybe you signal is weak or not properly installed.

I would make sure your cable company is not at fault, especially since regular channels come in fine. The other weakest link in your set-up could be the cable you are using between your cable box and your TV. Are you using a digital cable (HDMI or component) for your connection? If not that might be your problem.
