Question:

Technology in the UK classroom?

I have been trying to research different methods of technology used in a UK classroom, and I have been coming up empty. For the most part, I would guess that they are similar to those used in the United States, however to make things difficult, I have to do a presentation on the subject and need resources and definitive information. My first question is, can anyone confirm my belief that technology use in the UK class is similar than the U.S. Do you use computers (I know you do bc I found a website on that), but what else do you use? Does anyone have any websites that could point me to the historical development of tech. in the class? When were computers introduced? Do you use smart boards?? What is the REALLY big tech movement in the UK right now? What is kind of obsolete?

Any websites you could point me to would be greatly appreciated- this is for one of my last master's classes! Thanks so much!

  1. ok i'm a brit who lives works and teaches in american schools

i'm part of the tech cohort and considered part of the math team.

the only room we use smartboards are in math for calculus  and geometry , and we have science smart board

what schools here have gone to is the clickers system where each kid hasan individual remote and can click in your answer-  it gets info off ALL the students and keeps them engaged. it does grading for you and everything!!!!

see www.einstruction.com they also have teacher resources on the website that can be used.

ive been on trainigns for the past year.

with that i use a "smart  electronic chalk baord" what that is is a flat screen that i hold in my hand that is  the size of a book , that i can draw on and project my drawing as i go. its kind of a cheaper smart board but using the  mounted computer projector.   i give the chalk board to  the kids and pass it round so that they can write up their answers ont eh screen for all to use.

we are a very small school and use tech a lot in the classrooms.  see www. peaktopeak.org
