Ted Hankey out of the UK Open, Mervyn King wipes the 44-year-old off the list!
The UK Open started off with a bang and gave shockers that were hard to digest.
Last week’s headlines included Ted Hankey’s return to the world of darts and his debut at the UK Open. We heard him being positive about his game and his confidence was sky high.
This week, however, “The Count” faced an embarrassing early exit in his debut UK Open.
Hankey joined the PDC this year in January and wished for an entry in the darts universe after a bad era in his personal and professional life. His entrance in the PDC was appreciated by fans and players all over the world.
The two times BDO World Champion could not stand tall against Mervyn King. Hankey took an early lead, yet, fell apart by losing four straight legs against King.
This was indeed very disappointing for the 44-year-old, as he left the competition without saying a word. Even King was stunned with the play that Hankey delivered, as he holds plenty of experience and did wonders in his past.
“I was expecting a harder task than I was presented with because I know how good Ted is,” said King after the win.
Hankey and King share history together, as they have faced each other in pretty tough matches where Hankey has been outstanding. However, this is the time where he fell short of his mark after a very long absence from the darts scene.
The 44-year-old appeared exhausted in his first 2 matches, where he did an average job as a darts player who has been the BDO World Champion twice in his career.
“We go back a long way and he’s very hard to beat. But maybe, after playing the first two matches, he ran out of steam a little bit,” said King concluding Hankey’s poor performance.
Ted Hankey, Steve Farmer, David Pallet and Andy Roberts are the players who have exited the UK Open pretty early.
Hankey’s case is saddening, as he has seen bad times in his personal life which have influenced his profession in a very bad manner. The UK Open could have changed all of that, yet, it did not happen.
