Ted Lilly out of bullpen due to injury – MLB News
Los Angeles Dodgers’ starter Ted Lilly had to leave the game on Saturday, August 20 after he apparently had a stiff neck. The Dodgers’ starter had a tough game as his team lost the encounter to the Colorado Rockies 7-6.
Although it is yet to be determined as to what is the nature of the injury that the Dodgers starter has, the team will arrive at a final decision in the days to come with vigilant eye on the player’s condition.
His premature exit sent alarm bells ringing in the team. While the starter has no strong case to make with his performance this season, his injury might become a potential problem for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Even in the game that culminated with his injury, his performance was not up to the mark as he gave up three hits and allowed three runs, compounding the Dodgers’ problem in a supposedly important game of the season.
Injuries apart, the starter does not wish to miss the upcoming games. Having once had the sore elbow problem, the starter did not opt for missing the game as he was subsequently given rest to avoid any big problem.
Even now he does not wish to miss the games. "I don't expect to miss it. I think playing through injuries is part of the game," he said. "Guys have been doing it since the game started. When [Abner] Doubleday invented it, I'm guessing guys were playing through
injuries."
With his insistence to play the game even with his injury, he had to later leave the bull-pen on Saturday for the fear of something more worrying.
He was unsure if his injury could have worsened had he not pulled it off at the end. "I don't know if it was getting worse," he said. "It wasn't getting much better. I felt mechanically, I was getting worse."
Lilly had barely been able have 72 pitches thrown when he finally left the game. Hong-Chih Kuo relieved the pitcher. While speculations are rife, the injury may eventually prove to be serious enough to put him in the disabled list in the days ahead as John
Ely or, possibly, Dana Eveland may be considered to replace the Los Angeles Dodgers’ starter.
His record for the season does not have an impressive read. Having played 26 games this season, Ted Lilly has pitched 149.1 innings and allowed 78 runs. Barely been able to win 7 games, he has lost 13 games of all the starts that he has had for the Los Angeles
Dodgers since the start of the season with 4.58 ERA and 1.21 WHIP.
