Ted Lilly set to re-sign with Los Angeles Dodgers
Starting left-handed pitcher Ted Lilly is said to be re-signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The veteran is said to have agreed to a three-year deal with the club.
Lilly was set to become a free agent after the World Series. However, it appears as though he will head back to Los Angeles for another three seasons.
Lilly was traded to the Dodgers from the Chicago Cubs in a massive five player deal, which saw Los Angeles also receive first baseman Ryan Theriot and infielder Blake DeWitt.
Lilly was very successful with the club immediately after being traded, winning his first five starts and earning an impressive 1.83 ERA. However, the veteran tailed off down the stretch going 2-4 with an ERA of 4.89.
Lilly would likely have garnered a great deal of attention on the free agent market, as a consistent and reliable second or third starter. However, it was clear the 34-year-old was keen on remaining with his current squad.
The Lilly signing guarantees the Dodgers will get back the majority of their five man rotation from last season. The club already has Clayton Kershaw and Chad Billingsley locked up and is expected to re-sign Vincente Padilla to another one-year deal. Conversely,
it appears as though the squad is willing to part with Hiroki Kuroda, who is said to be returning to Japan, after having a tough year, going 11-13 with a 3.39 ERA.
The Dodgers had a poor year in 2010, finishing with an 80-82 record, which placed them 12 games behind the San Francisco Giants in the National League West.
